Available in all straight-blade sizes, the Semi-Truncated Tree Spade creates a rootball that is narrow than a Truncated spade but still stands well on its own. Semi-Truncated spades are the most common type of tree spade due to their versatility; they can down-size a great deal when digging smaller trees and dig both shallow and deeper roots effectively.

The 25-degree, semi-truncated spade is now the most common style spades today and is often referred to as: “the best of both worlds”. The angle of the blades and the angle of the towers are set at 25-degree. This will allow for a narrower cut at the bottom of the root ball but the tree will still stand straight. The narrow pitch blades allow for better soil penetration in clay soils but also allow for better compression when holding sandier soils. Due to the narrow pitch blades, all larger Dutchman spades are built on this angle. The 25-degree spade will allow the operator to dig at least three good root ball sizes comfortably. Dutchman’s semi-truncated spades can be built from 20” all the way up to 80” and are commonly stocked. Please note that 25 degree baskets must be purchased if you are using this style of spade.

Dutchmans 200 (o) is the perfect spade to deal with small trees and shrubs from 20" to 18" rootballs. Built extremely compact and light-weight, this unit can be outfitted to smaller skid steers, mini-excavators, or walk-behind loaders. The smaller, outside frame allows the operator to get around lower branched material.

Weight of the outside frame is approximately 1100 lbs.

Dutchmans 24-inch, 25-degree tree spades are produced in both inside and outside frames. This type of spade is great for digging small, 4-5 foot coniferous trees in narrow areas as well as moving small, 2.5-inch shade trees. It is also ideal for smaller loaders with limited lift capacity. Unit digs from 26” to 18”.

Weight of the inside frame is approximately 1000 lbs and weight of the outside frame is approximately 1100 lbs.

Dutchmans 33-inch, 25-degree tree spades are designed to produce an optimum fill in a 32-inch basket. This type of spade is great for digging 6-8 foot coniferous trees as well as moving shade trees from 3-inch to 3.5-inch. It is an ideal, compact spade for small to mid-size loaders. Available in both inside and outside frames. Unit digs from 34” to 26”.

Weight of the inside frame is approximately 1400 lbs and weight of the outside frame is approximately 1700 lbs.
